چکیده

Introduction Dynamic Shimming is a technique for obtaining optimal Bo field homogeneity over a volume by updating the shim coil and gradient currents for every slice in a multislice acquisition in real time [1, 2]. Dynamic shimming can produce better field homogeneity within each slice than global volume shimming methods. It can therefore reduce signal losses and geometric distortions and can be especially useful in fast T2* weighted imaging sequences such as EPI and in multislice spectroscopic imaging. We have implemented dynamic shimming on a human 7T system. Results with human brain imaging and an evaluation of the improvements made are presented.

Improved EPI at 7T with Dynamic Multi-coil Technique (DYNAMITE) Shimming

INTRODUCTION: Echo-planar imaging (EPI) and its variants form the core of many functional and structural imaging studies. Image quality of these scans deteriorates drastically with increasing B0 inhomogeneities. Although post-processing can correct aspects related to image distortion, the only way to prevent signal dropout is by improved shimming. Commonly, higher-order static spherical harmoni...

Multicoil shimming of the mouse brain.

MR imaging and spectroscopy allow the noninvasive measurement of brain function and physiology, but excellent magnetic field homogeneity is required for meaningful results. The homogenization of the magnetic field distribution in the mouse brain (i.e., shimming) is a difficult task due to complex susceptibility-induced field distortions combined with the small size of the object. To date, the a...

SAR and Temperature Evaluations for B1 Shimming at 7 tesla

Introduction In high field MRI, the increased interactions between the electromagnetic waves and the biological tissues may give rise to heat and thermal hazards. This is clearly apparent for multi-transmit array applications where the electromagnetic fields are heavily manipulated in the subject to be imaged. In this work we provide complete 3D predictions of the B1 + fields, MRI images, energ...

Clinical liver MRI at 3.0 Tesla using parallel RF transmission with patient-adaptive B1 shimming

Introduction: The clinical implementation of high field MRI systems has introduced new challenges for body imaging with respect to B1 field nonuniformities, which can result in the generation of standing waves and signal loss particularly in abdominal imaging. Several approaches have been proposed to achieve a more homogeneous excitation and to avoid a degradation of image quality at higher mag...

Transmit and receive FDTD modeling as a valuable tool for RF coil development: validation of simulations with in vivo torso imaging at 7 Tesla

The ability to predict both transmit and receive characteristics in vivo is an important and necessary tool for the development of coils especially at ultra high magnetic fields (UHF). Accurate simulation permits the virtual development of coils saving both human and material resources [1, 2]. This is especially important during this period where large arrays and complex geometries are being pr...
